Our Story

Chapie was created by former SpaceX and NASA Aerospace Engineer, Jacob Kirstein. Jacob had been developing products since 2014 without much success. In January of 2021, Jacob's old roommate suggested a new invention idea over the phone: a vacuum-insulated flask for lip balm. At the time, Jacob didn't use lip balm and didn't grasp the significance of the idea. Later that night, Jacob shared the idea with his girlfriend, who became ecstatic about it. Her friend was equally enthusiastic. Despite his doubts, Jacob 3D printed a mock-up of the invention, now known as Chapie. He spray-painted the 3D models and shared the idea and design process on TikTok. Overnight, the video went viral, and the rest is history. With no money to fund production, Jacob launched a presale campaign on Shopify on his 25th birthday, March 29th, 2021, to start collecting preorders. As preorders piled up, Jacob searched for a manufacturer who could produce the world's smallest vacuum-insulated thermos, necessitating the creation of new manufacturing methods tailored to Chapie's design. It wasn't all smooth sailing, Covid delays, hackers, and manufacturing methods plagued the production of the first Chapie presale campaign.

After 3 failed attempts to mass produce Chapie, while running out of time and money, Jacob gave it one more shot to get the product off the ground. Finally, a heroic effort by an advanced manufacturer proposed a proprietary process to create what is now known as Chapie. Since the first presale campaign, Chapie has been an instant success.
